NBA Player Disguised as an Old Man Dunks….
Those clever advertisers. The best ones make you love a viral video you don’t even want to, simply based on principle.
But it was a genius move the day that Pepsi decided to suit up the Cleveland Cavaliers’ Kyrie Irving as “Uncle Drew” and take him down to a city basketball court. Whether it was staged or not, and whether the players were all actors doesn’t really seem to matter to viewers. A staggering 2 million people have watched the video on YouTube in the last four days.
The clever take has to fall into the NBA commercial hall of fame, alongside the old from the 90′s, Bird vs. Jordan for McDonald’s and the LeBron and Kobe puppets for Nike, right? Even though it’s not technically a commercial by traditional standards, it still has to be considered.
Say those hoopsters really had no idea the old uncle was really a star to begin the night. How long do you think it took them to realize there was really an impressive baller underneath the slick disguise?
